Plasma cutting uses a high-velocity jet of ionized gas, delivered through a narrow nozzle, to heat and cut through electrically conductive metal. It is one of the fastest methods available for cutting steel and other structural material, and performs especially well on non-alloy steels and heavier-gauge sheet.

What is Plasma Cutting?

In plasma cutting, ionized gas is forced through a narrow nozzle at high speed and temperature, carrying an electrical current that heats and melts the metal on contact, while the high-speed gas jet blows the molten material clear of the cut. It is recommended by industry specialists for cutting steel and non-ferrous metals up to around 25mm thick, including special cases, such as mesh-form metals, that oxy-fuel cutting cannot handle well.
